7th Grade Initiative

The Pennsylvania State Alliance of YMCAs, in support of the efforts of the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Department of Education and 500 school districts in the Commonwealth, present a state-wide initiative to provide free YMCA memberships to 7th grade students.  As youth begin to face the varied challenges of  adolescence, they are more likely to begin disassociating from formal organizations, to distance themselves from family and its support structures, and experiment with unhealthy and illegal behaviors. The Greensburg  YMCA has a longstanding tradition of creatively adapting its services to the changing needs and interest of its  constituents and is proud to launch the 7th Grade Membership    Initiative as a way to better engage, educate, and connect to our youth right when they need it most! Not only will this provide 7th grade students with a safe environment, but it will enable students to grow in sprit, mind and body.

The Greensburg YMCA is offering FREE ONE YEAR LIMITED ACCESS MEMBERSHIPS TO ALL 7th Graders that go to school at Greensburg Salem, Aquinas Academy, Jeannette, Penn Trafford, Hempfield & Latrobe. The Greensburg YMCA 7th Grade Initiative Program will encourage 7th graders to strengthen behaviors of remaining active, staying fit, and the importance of continuing these habits into their adult lives.

GOALS

  • Promote YMCA Character Values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
  • Develop a sense of belonging in each child.
  •  Provide a safe, secure atmosphere.
  •  Encourage parent input and participation.
  • Develop healthy exercise and eating habits.
  •  Increase physical and mental well being.
  •  Have fun!

Registration is as easy as 123….

  • Come to the Greensburg YMCA with a parent or legal guardian.
  • Present valid school ID or proof of grade.
  • Complete the Greensburg YMCA membership application,  parent agreement and program Survey.
