Critical Needs Alert – #ONEDAY
On Tuesday, August 3, 2021, the Pittsburgh Foundation will host a Critical Needs Alert giving day to support organizations in Allegheny and Westmoreland counties that provide for basic needs.
The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed and deepened socio-economic disparities in our region. Increased demand for food, housing and mental and physical health care have placed unprecedented demands on regional nonprofits fulfilling basic needs. In addition, nonprofits are having a difficult time anticipating and planning for future needs. Workers in every sector are dealing with lost wages. Transportation and child care systems are also facing significant cutbacks, making life more difficult for everyone who relies on these services.
This year’s Critical Needs Alert is meant to help nonprofits that are addressing basic needs. Also, the Foundation recognizes that at least one-third of our neighbors lived at or near the federal poverty line even before the coronavirus. Gifts made during Critical Needs Alert will be amplified by $500,000 of prorated incentive funds from The Pittsburgh Foundation and $25,000 from The Community Foundation of Westmoreland County.
