Before & After School Enrichment (BASE)

What is Before & After School Enrichment (BASE)?

The Greensburg YMCA BASE program is a positive environment in which children can thrive. The program is set up center based with a variety of stations available for the child to choose from. All sites are at a STAR 1 level through the Keystone STARS program, and licensed by the Department of Human Services. Curriculum is centered around the Y’s Mission and Values which are Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibilities.  Each month there will be a central theme that all activities will be based on.  Participants can expect to keep active through organized play along with crafts, free art, block building, music, group games, and homework/study time. We also provide healthy afternoon snacks to each child. This program is offered within the Hempfield Area, Greensburg Salem and Yough School Districts* along with Aquinas Academy.

2022-2023 BASE Announcement:

Due to a sudden change in staffing, our BASE program is operating at critical staffing shortages, forcing us to adjust our daily schedules.   Beginning Monday, Sept. 12, we are suspending the morning program at  Amos K. Hutchinson Elementary until further notice. We apologize for this closure and understand the hardship it creates.  At this moment, there is no estimated opening date.

If you are registered for afternoon care, we will still be operating on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

If you have any questions, please contact Stephanie Brady at or 724.834-0150, ext. 153

Due to staff limitations, as of Aug. 8, 2022, we are only able to open the following programs on a limited basis.

  • West Hempfield Elementary will be open mornings only.
  • Hutchinson Elementary will be open every day in the morning and also Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday afternoons. Nicely and Aquinas sites will be held at Hutchinson Elementary.  THIS SITE IS CURRENTLY FILLED, BUT THERE IS A WAITING LIST BEING COMPILED IN CASE OF CANCELLATIONS.

We will be opening the other sites on a rolling basis once we hire and on-board new staff.  Please know we are doing all that we can to open programs as quickly and safely as possible.

We are still collecting registration packets for all sites.  Once we have staff in place, we can open those programs.

Thank you for your patience and grace during this time.

A completed enrollment packet must be submitted to the Youth Director’s office the School-Aged Children’s Office at least 5 days prior to a child’s anticipated start date. The Youth Director’s office is located at 101 South Maple Avenue, Greensburg, PA 15601, packet may be turned in to the YMCA Welcome Center Desk; enrollment packets may be mailed in or dropped off at the YMCA Welcome Center or submitted digitally at

The Greensburg YMCA strives to never turn any child away due to the families inability to pay for programming. With that in mind we will accept two forms of assistance in defraying the costs of care. One way is through the YMCA Annual Support Campaign. The YMCA is able to grant scholarships to families in need due to the generosity of local businesses and individuals who donate monies to the campaign.  We encourage those who may not be able to afford our services on their own to complete a Financial Assistance Application and submit it to the Welcome Center of the YMCA. Please allow up to four weeks for processing.  Additionally all child care programs accept payment from ELRC.  Families should contact ELRC of Westmoreland County to inquire if they are qualified (724-836-4580).
