Group Exercise


We offer exciting group exercise classes here at the Greensburg Y.  We challenge our members to come experience the world of group exercise to enhance their wellness experience here at the Greensburg Y.  Classes being offered can be found below or pick up a group exercise tri-fold at the Welcome Center for more information.   For more information about group exercise, please contact our Director of Sports and Wellness, Shawn Rause, at  834-0150 Ext. 113.



You must call and reserve a bike for our Cycle classes, and only Members may reserve bikes.  Classes are at a first come first serve basis without a reservation.

Land Group Exercise:



The intensity of our group exercise classes vary from one class to another.  We relate our intensity to the amount of physical exertion that an individual will fell during a class.  We provide general guidelines for these intensity levels; however they can vary on the individual’s fitness levels.


Low Intensity: This level is for those who are ready to begin their fitness journey.  Classes will ease the body back into an active lifestyle, for those who have a higher activity level; this class can still be used as a recovery exercise session.

Moderate Intensity:  This class is for those who want to start challenging themselves to a higher physical fitness level.  The level of exertion will increase for the individuals along with allowing the participants to gain new techniques and experiences.  For those who have a higher activity level, this level allows them to improve skills and technique at a higher intensity.

Active Intensity:  This is for the seasoned active individual.  Your instructor will push the limits of your physicality and coach you into a more difficult exercise experience.  These classes are not for those who do not want to advance their fitness levels at a high level.  Be prepared to bring that heart rate into your target zone.


Advanced Yoga (M-A):  An advanced form of Hatha Yoga recommended for the seasoned yoga enthusiast.  This class focuses on building strength, increases flexibility and muscle tone, brings focus to the mind, encourages physical and mental balance while reducing stress.


Beginner Yoga:  This class aims at uniting the mind-body-spirit through Hatha Yoga uses postures (asana) and conscious breathing (Pranayama) in combination with mental focus to develop awareness, strength and flexibility, and relaxation. Through proper alignment and mindful actions of the body, Hatha Yoga brings balance, strength, and a sense of well-being to the practitioner.


Body Sculpt: Total body workout that benefits all fitness levels and backgrounds.  Routines fluctuate every week and the focus will be on not only sculpting the body but improving strengthening and toning of all muscles. Various types of workouts are incorporated to help you burn calories, and gain lean but strong muscles for your body.


Cycle:  This class has our very own “spinologists” who take you though intervals, rolling hills, sprints, climbs, and runs, and with surges of music hand-picked to motivate and inspire! This is a great workout if you want to burn calories, increase endurance, and is for patrons of any level of experience. Come on in for the ride!


HIIT Cycle (M-A): The concept of High Intensity Interval Training in a cycle class. We will develop a quick 30 cycling routine with periods of intense training and recovery cycle to push your training to the max


Les Mills BODYFLOW (L-M): Ideal for anyone and everyone, BODYFLOW is a yoga-based class that will improve your mind, body, and life. During BODYFLOW an inspired soundtrack plays as you bend and stretch through a series of simple yoga moves and embrace elements of TAI Chi and Pilates. Breathing control is a part of all the exercises. You’ll strengthen your entire body and leave the class feeling calm and centered


Les Mills Body Pump:  This original LES MILLS™ barbell class will sculpt tone and strengthen your entire body, fast!  Great bodies aren’t born; they are transformed, using the proven BODYPUMP™ formula: THE REP EFFECT™ a breakthrough in resistance workout training. Focusing on low weight loads and high repetition movements, you’ll burn fat, gain strength and quickly produce lean body muscle conditioning.  The cutting-edge BODYPUMP™ choreography and chart-topping music is refreshed every three months, so with your choice of weight and highly-trained instructors you can get the group effect and the results you’ve been looking for!


Les Mills  CX WORX (L-M-A):  Exercising muscles around the core, CXWORX provides the vital ingredient for a stronger body. A stronger core makes you better at all things you do, from everyday life to your favorite sports – it’s the glue that holds everything together.  All the moves in CXWORX have options, so it’s challenging but achievable for your own level of fitness. During the 30-minute workout trained instructors guide you through correct technique as you work with resistance tubes and weight plates, as well as body weight exercises like crunches, and hovers. You will also get into some hip, butt and lower back exercises.


Les Mills  GRITT/HIIT (M-A):  LES MILLS GRIT Strength is a 30-minute high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout, designed to improve strength and build lean muscle. This workout uses barbell, weight plate and body weight exercises to blast all major muscle groups. LES MILLS GRIT Strength takes cutting edge HIIT and combines it with powerful music and inspirational coaches who will be down on the floor with you, motivating you to go harder to get fit, fast.


Yin Yoga:  This class targets the deeper levels of the body/heart/mind: Rather than an exclusive style of practice, Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, and even the joints of the body that normally are not exercised very much in a more active style of asana practice.   You will emphasize internal heat, the lengthening and contracting of muscles, and generally target the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis, and lower spine.



Aquatic Group Exercise:


H2O Bootcamp (M-A):  Splash your way into an intense full body workout that emphasizes agility, strength, and speed.  Held in our warm water pool and set to a high-intensity soundtrack, prepare for fast and powerful movements that will tone your muscles and increase your cardio.


Senior Swim (L-M-A):  This class is offered in the shallow end of the main pool and the class format includes cardio exercises with or without hand paddles which are used for resistance. Participants can expect to improve their strength, range of motion, and learn how to use aerobic steppers. Participants are able to follow the instructor’s cues at their own pace


Happy Hinges (L-M):  This class consists of rotation exercises to help alleviate the symptoms of arthritis and focuses on improving range of motion in troubled joints.  Classes are held in our training pool which has a warmer water temperature .  This pool is equipped with a hydraulic lift to assist you in entering and exiting the pool.


Senior Citizen Swim (L-M):  Come join our 45 minute shallow water exercise, calisthenics & conditioning.  Guaranteed to be full of excitement and fun while keeping your joints loose and ready to conquer your day.





The Greensburg YMCA is very excited to announce that we are a provider through Silver and Fit, Active and Fit, and Silver Sneakers.  Insurance holders membership fees will be paid from the insurance provider. The classes listed below are also offered free to private paying members. The Greensburg YMCA offers a variety of intensity levels of group exercise classes to suit the needs of all members. Silver and Fit EXPLORE:  This level is for older adults who have no prior experience with exercise or exercise programs.  The class is designed to increase the participant’s flexibility, joint stability, dynamic balance, coordination, muscular strength, and cardiovascular endurance. LOW INTENSITY


Silver and Fit EXPERIENCE:  This level is for moderately active older adults who exercise in some way one to two days per week.  The class is designed to increase the participant’s flexibility, joint  stability, dynamic balance, coordination, agility, reaction-time, muscular strength, power, and cardiovascular endurance. MODERATE INTENSITY


Silver and Fit EXCEL:  This level is for very active older adults who regularly exercise three or more days per week.  The class is designed to increase the participant’s flexibility, joint stability, dynamic balance, coordination, agility, reaction-time, muscular strength, power, and cardiovascular endurance. ACTIVE INTENSITY


Silver and Fit YOGA:  Powered by YogaFit, Silver and Fit Yoga is specifically designed for the active aging adult.  The class combines a series of poses to increase flexibility, range of motion, strength, posture, and body awareness and will deliver a comprehensive and beneficial workout.  Silver and Fit Yoga is user friendly and easy to follow format and is appropriate for any fitness level.
